Educational Tours
| A highlight of the year for children and adults alike is a hayride at the Sugartown Strawberries farm. This annual event has become a favorite for school classes, scouting groups, ball teams, church groups, families, and neighborhoods. |
It is great to see a real, working farm, and we are eager to educate the kids about farming, irrigation, and respect for the land. In our educational hayride, we stop for the kids to see and learn about our bee hives. We talk about pollination and honey collection. They'll also visit the pond, and discuss how the water is pumped to the fields and talk about our type of water-conserving irrigation system.
Every visit includes a hayride, and because we care about the kids, our wagons do have protection railings, and we use stairs to be sure everyone gets on the wagon safely. We are more than happy to lift children with physical disabilities onto the wagons if they are willing.
The group visit includes a free pumpkin, coloring book about the farm, and an ear of real popcorn or other gift to enjoy when they return home. We have several scenic, shady picnic areas for multiple classes, including a spot under our 258 year old white oak tree. We also have plenty of room for buses and cars in our parking area.
Kids may also run off extra energy in our corn maze, or younger children may prefer the hay bale maze, with walls two bales high.
Price
Teachers should allow a minimum of one hour for this educational hayride tour, as we do stop at the pumpkin patch, the beehives, and the pond before returning you to the picnic area. We have several picnic areas under beautiful trees, if your group wishes to bring their lunch or snack. Our country store also sells old fashion candy, soda, chips and bottled water.- Cost is $5 for each person. We do admit 1 teacher free per every 15 children. Adult chaperones are asked to pay for the tour, and will also receive a free pumpkin.
